Jenny does Pure CSS Containers with DotNetNuke

August 22, 2008

I’m back!

And I have completed the tutorial on CSS Containers for the red leaf skin in one sitting! This was very much like the previous tutorial on creating containers to me.

Although the containers were styled in a totally different way, to the other tutorial, they were styled similar to the Pure CSS skin. So, like the skins and containers made with tables were similar, so were the skins and containers made in Pure CSS.

That’s all I have to say about that!

Jenny does nothing with DotNetNuke

It’s true!

I didn’t do anything!

I went out instead!

A girl has to party sometimes!!!

CSS Skinning will resume soon!

Jenny does DotNetNuke all over the place

August 14, 2008

The final part of the CSS Skinning tutorial has been another eye opener for me. I didn’t realise there was so many different browsers for the internet. I also didn’t realise how different the look of your website can be between the different browsers.

Again, this was so well explained, I knew exactly what was going on and could appreciate the effort and trouble of making your website look the same across the various browsers.

So, that’s my first DNN Pure CSS Skin in the bag! All I need to do now is make some containers to finish it off.

Jenny does DotNetNuke House Menu in Pure CSS

August 11, 2008

So, it’s all about the House of Nuke menu today!

I took my time with this part of the tutorial as I find the house menu confusing. Mostly, I find the class types for the menu the most difficult to understand. Although the tutorials explain it so well I still think I might get the different classes confused when I come to make my own skin.

Yes I know I have down loaded the videos to watch whenever I need too but I still took notes, just so I could remember in Jenny terms what the difference between ‘#HouseMenuNav ul’ and ‘#HouseMenuNav li’ was.

By the end of this tutorial my menu had changed so much from the original boring list at the side of the screen.

I really didn’t think I would enjoy this as much as I have been.

Jenny does The Simple Red Leaf skin in DotNetNuke

August 8, 2008

OK, so today I started my pure CSS skin with a XML file and HTM file and I have now started a CSS file from a blank page!  I also have found out all by myself (with help from Wendy) why my house menu wasn’t displaying my sub pages. Apparently it just doesn’t for some reason.

So, I made a second home page and moved my subpages on to the new page. Now when I view the website in progress, the house menu displays all my pages properly, minus any styling that should be there. (I haven’t got that far yet.)

Jenny does more CSS Skinning in DotNetNuke

August 5, 2008

This tutorial is great! I actually felt like I was creating something more than I did with the other tutorials. Starting to build a skin almost from scratch is pretty cool. As I was watching the video and saw the guy delete the HTM file I was thinking ‘oh my god! Why did he do that?’ but once I got into the flow I could see how everything was coming together.

Another perfectly explained tutorial. (If I can understand this, anyone can!)

I did have a problem with my house menu not displaying my subpages from my home page. So I will go back and see if I missed anything in the house of nuke tutorial.

BFB! (But First Bed)

Nite!

Jenny does DotNetNuke Pure CSS Skinning

August 1, 2008

Wow this is a big tutorial!

Another packed issue from those British boys at DNN Creative. Hopefully I’ll get through this one quicker than the skinning with tables issue.

The only problem I had here was installing the FCKeditor. The problem I had was it was already installed. So, I guess that was one less thing to worry about.  For this tutorial I decided to use a fresh installation of DotNetNuke so I didn’t get confused with the previous tutorials website.

So, once I installed the house menu (and didn’t install the FCKeditor)I was ready to get started,

So, I am going to bed.

Jenny does DotNetNuke in all sizes!

July 27, 2008

I believe I am getting to grips with this now!

I have successfully completed the tutorial on resizing text! The file that came with the download called Keyword and Percentage Sizes was very useful and I can see how it will be used greatly in the future. (So ill be saving that in a safe place!)

I am really looking forward to the next tutorial on creating a Pure CSS skin though I think I will miss my vortex music site. (Like an old friend) But hey, life goes on. Onwards and upwards!

Jenny does resizeable text in DotNetNuke!

July 23, 2008

Well, what can I say? I did exactly what it says in the title!

Yet again, this was one more thing I had never thought about before.  I didn’t even think changing the text size was something you had control over when you made a website, I just assumed that it was something your search engine did for you.

Only problem I had with this was I tried about 3 times to change the Default doctype folder in my website files to make my installation XHTML compliant.  Then I realised my mistake, and fast forwarded to issue 19 and followed the tutorials on how to change the doctype.

I was so pleased when it told me my page was operating in Standards compliance mode! It felt like a real accomplishment for some reason. (Is the sad? I dunno?)

It has been a productive day today and I’m pleased with what I have managed to get done.

See you soon!

Jenny removes the Solpart menu in DotNetNuke

July 20, 2008

Oops I did it again!

Wendy came over yesterday and had a look at what I had done with the House of Nuke menu. My CSS was fine. This time I messed up my XML file. Doh!

This time I incorrectly spelt the word ‘setting’ like this ‘settting’.  Easy mistake to make (dumb one if you ask me) and I easily fixed. So, that’s two things to watch out for when things don’t work properly.  (Or things to watch out for when Jenny doesn’t work properly!)

Ok, so that’s finished with and today I removed the Solpart menu from the containers on my vortex music site, and replaced them with drop down menus.

Bye!
